About
I’m Soheil Goharipour, a filmmaker and cinematographer from Iran, now based in the United States. I’m drawn to images that feel honest work shaped by emotional clarity, visual restraint, and a deep respect for story. My films and collaborations span narrative and documentary, and my projects have screened at festivals across the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East, including several Oscar-qualifying events and independent showcases.
I grew up in Tehran and fell in love with cinema as a teenager, long before I knew how to use a camera, I was studying light, shadow, and composition. I earned a B.A. in cinematography from the Tehran University of Art and completed an MFA in Film at Ohio University, where I broadened my practice into directing, editing, and sound.
My approach leans toward mood and subtlety. I start with the emotional core of a scene and let the craft follow, whether that means working with natural light, moving handheld, or holding on a quiet frame. I’m less interested in spectacle than in stillness, tension, and intimacy, moments that feel lived rather than performed.
Beyond set life, I’m an active collaborator and mentor. I value process over perfection, and I believe good filmmaking grows out of trust, patience, and open conversation. As an immigrant artist, I carry a cross-cultural perspective into every project and try to listen closely to my subjects, my collaborators, and the quiet rhythms of everyday life.
If you’d like to talk about a project or just compare notes on light and story I’d love to connect.
